In view of recent events in Georgia related to the legalization of marijuana, one very interesting story was recalled.
Several years ago, Peruvian customs officials noticed that almost every day the border with Ecuador is crossed by trucks full of honey. Why do Ecuadorians have such an amount of imported honey, if they themselves are with beekeeping business is normal? The question demanded an answer, and the customs officers sent one can for examination. Their suspicions were confirmed – cocaine was contained in honey. Unexpected, however, was the message of scientists that the drug was not mixed with honey mechanically, – honey itself somehow acquired narcotic properties. As it turned out later, drug dealers “grazed” bees on plantations with coca – a plant from which cocaine is obtained. So they received the special product: natural honey, and yet a drug.
